Best Practices Templates allow you to create a repeatable series of tasks and events that you can apply to Matters to automatically schedule a process or plan. These are useful for internal office processes, official court rules of procedure, project plans, etc.
Step 1: Where to Start?
You can begin in one of three places:
- Select the Best Practices tab
- In your sidebar, 'Create New' Best Practices
- Select the AdvoLogix Setup tab & select Best Practices
Step 2: Create New Best Practices Template

- Best Practice Name
- Choose a name that relates to the reason for this particular template.
- Description (optional)
- A short description of what this particular template is meant to accomplish can assist future administration.
- Related To
- The object or type of record that you want the Best Practice activities applied to.
- Adjust Non-Working Days
- None - If selected, every day of the week is considered a Working Day.
- Before - If selected and the activity due date lands on a Non-Working Day, then the due date will be moved to the business day BEFORE the Non-Working Day.
- After - If selected and the activity due date lands on a Non-Working Day, then the due date will be moved to the business day AFTER the Non-Working Day.
- Move Related Activities if Key Date Changes
- If selected and the Key Activity date is changed, then all activities setup in the template will adjust accordingly to the new date.
- If NOT selected, then a change in the Key Activity date will not adjust the date for future activities; those activities remain based on the original date.

- The Best Practice must be marked as 'Active' to use the Template.

IMPORTANT NOTE
Non-Working Days are (1) weekends and (2) specific holidays that are identified in your organization's business calendar.
Step 3: Adding Best Practice Activities

INFORMATIONAL SECTION
- Best Practice Activity Name
- Choose a name that relates to the reason for this particular action being taken.
- Key Activity
- This is a check box to designate which Activity in your Best Practices Template is the ine Key Activity upon which other Activities are offset from.
- Number of Days
- The trigger set for either before (minus) or after (plus) a task is scheduled in relation to the Key Activity date. (For the creation of the Key Activity, enter zero for the Number of Days.)
- Before/After Key Activity
- Choose whether this activity should be Before or After the Key Activity date.* The time frame directly corresponds to the number of days chosen.
- *For the creation of the Key Activity, it won't matter which option you choose because once you designate this Activity as the Key Activity, this field becomes null anyways.
- Choose whether this activity should be Before or After the Key Activity date.* The time frame directly corresponds to the number of days chosen.
- Best Practice Activity Name

SCHEDULED ACTIVITY DETAIL SECTION
- Activity Type
- Directly corresponds to the type of Activity desired to be carried out: Task or Event
- Default Assigned To
- Choose whom to assign the activity to.
- Activity Subject
- Choose a subject that relates to the reason for this particular action being taken. (Often the same as the Best Practice Activity Name.)
- Activity Notes (optional)
- To describe the Activity in detail.
- Activity Type
