What are Best Practices & Best Practice templates?

Updated on

Best Practices is a way to create a group of repeatable tasks for a specific procedure; as being applied to a court or other official rule of procedure (i.e. based on a target event like a hearing or trial date).

The Best Practice Templates; accessible from the Advologix Setup tab; allows you to create a repeatable series of tasks and events that you can apply to an object (like a Matter) to automatically schedule a process or plan.

These are useful for:

  • Internal office processes
  • Official court rules of procedure
  • Project plans

The Key Activity is actually the trigger, and all the actions are based upon this Key Activity date.

After you provide a Key Activity date and choose the Key Activity - the other activities in the Best Practice template can be based on the number of days, as offset to the Key Activity, before or after Key Activity Date.

  • Best Practices (BP) are saved and attached to Matter.( Open Activities? till completed - then Activity History?)
  • BP creates Events and Tasks and attach them to Matter.  (Open Activities? till completed - then Activity History?)
  • There is no relation to the Matter dates on it (those on the matter page in date fields). When applying a BP, user specifies the Date manually.
  • BP in general is an idea to apply and set periodic Activities based on a Time Trigger (to be identified by user itself when applying a BP)

So if need actions based off two different dates

  • You will need to create two different Best Practice Templates
  • Set them to be activated on the Matter as needed

Choosing Best practices button, and selecting which template to apply to Matter:

  • Add date entry,
  • Choosing recipient, etc, and
  • Saving

This creates the Activities, adds them to the Open Activities related list, then as they are completed they will be removed from open activities related list and added to Activity History related list.
