Sometimes users experience some errors or failed installation messages during the installation of Salesforce for Outlook. The steps below should address most of the installation issues.
Issue #1: Installation Wizard Disappears During Installation
Sometimes during the Salesforce for Outlook installation the wizard disappears and installation fails. This is most probably caused by Anti Vitus or other security programs installed on the user's computer. To resolve this issue you need to have local administrator permission on the computer (Note: This is different from the Salesforce Administrator) to be able to stop the security software (such as Norton 360, AVG, ESET Smart Security, etc).
- First of all you would need to close Microsoft Outlook and all the browsers.
- Then you need to stop the security software temporarily.
- Make sure to re-enable the security software after your Installation is done.
- Also it's best if you can download the Salesforce for Outlook setup file to your Desktop or another folder in your computer before stopping this process.
- The stops to disable the security software vary and you may need to check with the software manufacturer.
- You can try stopping it from the Services and start up tab but it may not work with certain security applications. To try this:
- Windows Vista/7: Click on Start and type In msconfig into the search box and press Enter
- Windows XP: Click on Start | Run and type in msconfig and click on Ok.
- You can try stopping it from the Services and start up tab but it may not work with certain security applications. To try this:
- The System Configuration Utility will launch.
- Click on the Services tab and uncheck the process representing the security software (such as AVG, ZoneAlarm, etc) and then click Ok.
Windows Vista/7 Only Users
Since Windows Vista and 7 have the built-in security setting called UAC (User Account Control) which Is enabled by default, make sure to run the Salesforce for Outlook setup file as Administrator (right click on the setup file and click on Run as Administrator) to make sure the setup installs the application correctly. You may also need to run the Salesforce for Outlook application as an administrator as well. To do this:
- Simply right click on the Salesforce for Outlook shortcut
- Click on Properties
- Click on the Compatibility tab
- Under Privilege Lever check the box for Run as Administrator.
Sometimes UAC is set to the highest and you may need to set to Never Notify and restart the computer to be able to install SFO (Salesforce for Outlook) successfully.
Issue #2: Installation Fails with Random Error Message

Make sure to select the first option to reinstall the app.
