This lesson explains how to navigate to the setup area, as a system administrator, to add a new custom field.
Navigate to the Object in Setup
If the custom field will be on a standard object, then navigate to Setup | Build | Customize. Then select your standard object and go to Fields. Scroll down to the Account Custom Fields & Relationships section and select the New button.
- OR -
If the custom field will be on a custom object, then navigate to Setup | Build | Create | Objects. Then select your custom object and go to Fields. Hover over the Custom Fields & Relationships related lists quick link and select the New button.
Select the Field Type

Name the Field

Set the Field-Level Security

- Select the Visible checkbox to make the field visible to all users.
- Click Next
Ensure the New Field is Placed on the Page Layout
